In La Voz que Soy, media serves as a visual and emotional extension of Zuly’s reinterpretation of La voix humaine, reframing the opera through her experience as a Black Latinx woman. My approach focused on expanding the emotional and cultural landscape around Zuly’s performance, using projection as a living environment that breathes with her voice, her heritage, and the stories she wants to tell. As she revisited love, separation, and self-preservation, the media shifted subtly around her: her homeland, her memories, and texture forms that responded to tone and rhythm.The goal was to become a partner to her storytelling, inviting audiences into a shared reflection on identity, loss, and the histories that extends beyond the opera’s original frame.
