I was the President of the Chinese Theater and Movie Society group at Penn State University. We produce one to two Chinese plays each semester. In the year of 2017, instead of making traditional plays, I wanted to experiment with something new. Therefore, Café Murder was created.

Café Murder is an interactive murder mystery dinner play. In the show, audience members act as detectives and help solve the crime while having a fancy dinner. The actors and I devised the show together. We designed multiple endings and side quests to cover the different choices the audience might make. We also trained hard on improvisation acting, so the actors could be prepared for all the possible interactions the audience could have.

It was a new experience for many audience members as they had never attended an interactive show before, and we received a lot of positive feedback. We held the show in a fine hotel with a buffet offering, and we sold out all the tickets for the four performances with fifty audiences each.
